(We’re discussing guitar picking)

Eric: Doc Watson is 85 years old and never misses a note. Even Tony Rice missed some things here and there.

Me: Yeah! And he never has to even look down at his hands.

Eric: Well…um…

Me: (Head in hands) I mean, he doesn’t even look down anyway! He doesn’t…oh nevermind.

Doc Watson is blind. Whoops.

The Storms Are On The Oceans

Last night at the Tony Rice Unit show, they played an instrumental of this song. My dad used to sing this to us when we were kids. Eric turned on a copy of Doc Watson singing this and it nearly brought me to tears. It’s a truly beautiful song…

“Oh who will dress your pretty little feet
And who will glove your hand
Oh who will kiss your rosy red cheeks
When I’m in a foreign land.”

I painted my own!
Trudy says she thinks it means “Patience” and “Forward Motion.” I think it means “Opening Your Heart.”
When it comes to symbols (and any art, really), I think it’s less important to consider what the artist’s intentions were than what the piece means to you. When I do tarot card readings for myself, for example, I consider what the cards are “supposed” to mean, sure, but I also look at the images on the card and think about what emotions they stir up in me, and incorporate both approaches into my final interpretation.
So tell me…what does this symbol mean to you?

I agree with you, Jordan. I think it means letting your heart free and open. Also, I see Springtime in this!
